Internal Communications Program Increases Engagement by 300%

Northland employees cited poor communication as a major concern. To address this, we redesigned the intranet, implemented a weekly newsletter, leveraged Yammer for real-time updates, and held regular All Hands meetings. These initiatives significantly improved employee engagement, information access, and overall communication effectiveness, leading to higher employee satisfaction and a more informed workforce.

The Challenge:

When I arrived at Northland, employees routinely named communication as a major problem, and survey feedback highlighted that employees had no idea what management was working on or where the company was headed. The company was going through a fast growth phase with lots of new employees who needed to understand the core values, vision, and direction of the company in order to maintain engagement. Additionally, the intranet was a Google site with no clear hierarchy of information, it was difficult to find the information employees wanted quickly, and it did not reflect the brand appropriately. It was a virtual Wild, Wild West that needed to be wrangled in order to be useful.
